The advance registration deadline for WAPL 2015: Ride the Rapids of Change, May 6-8, has been extended until May 1st! Be sure to register by May 1st to take advantage of pre-conference registration discounts -- an onsite registration surcharge will apply if you register onsite. Also, there will be no onsite registration for meals, so to attend the breakfasts and author luncheons you must register by May 1st. Martin was nominated by members of the Madison Public Library staff based on his commitment to free access to information, his ability to form partnerships and his creativity in his many outreach efforts. Martin’s wide-ranging skills and abilities make him an ideal candidate for the 2015 Paralibrarian. The Paralibrarian of the Year Award was created to recognize the contributions made by paralibrarians and support staff, and to help them further their education through a scholarship to aid in the completion of a bachelor’s of science degree in Information Science and Technology or a Master of Library and Information Science degree through UW-Milwaukee School of Information Studies (UW-Milwaukee SOIS) The Wisconsin Library Association Paralibrarian of the Year Award recognizes the essential role of paralibrarians, including all library support staff, who do not currently have an MLIS in providing excellent library service in Wisconsin. Marti Koller, English Department Chair at the Baldwin-Woodville High School, is the winner of the 2015 Intellectual Freedom Award. The award is given jointly by the Wisconsin Library Association (WLA) and the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA). A long-time advocate of intellectual freedom, Koller has battled censorship and educated students about the principles of intellectual freedom and first amendment rights. In her work as a classroom teacher she has incorporated awareness of free speech, censorship, and intellectual freedom into the curriculum to inform and empower students on their academic journeys and beyond into their adult lives. Koller has resisted efforts to restrict content and materials, as well as holding administration accountable for following school board policy in formal reconsideration of materials both in her classes and in others.
