Joyeux Noël, Mele Kalikimaka, Nollaig Shona, Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Fröhliche Weihnachten, Happy Holidays,  and Vrolijk Kerstfeest!!!

The event that everyone looks forward to at the WLA conference is just around the corner….it’s time for the 2012 WLA Foundation Silent Auction Fundraiser! To help spark your creativity, we’re suggesting a Holiday theme for you to keep in mind this year as you consider items to donate.  Of course, you’re not limited to Holiday items - we gladly welcome all items (as long as they meet our criteria below…)

It’s easy to join in the fun:  you can support the Foundation by donating items for the auction and then by bidding on the items at the conference.  Of course, lots of people do both – donate items and bid!  Last year’s auction raised more than $4,000 for the Campaign for Wisconsin Libraries and with your help we should be able to surpass that amount this year!

We encourage you to be creative as you come up with items to donate for the auction.  Here are some suggestions based on items that brought top dollar at past auctions:

  • Theme baskets (always popular and great library staff to create collectively!)
  • Fine arts, including jewelry, paintings, sculpture, pottery
  • Products or services that a library or librarians would find useful (story hour, consulting)
  • Entertainment packages (theater or sporting event tickets, golf packages)
  • Hotel packages (e.g., weekend getaways with one or more meals included)
  • Trips & hotel stays inside or outside Wisconsin
  • Collectibles, antiques and memorabilia
  • Handmade & homemade items (needlework, jewelry, baked goods, preserves, etc.)

We ask that you keep the following guidelines in mind as you consider donating items:

  • Please consider donating items that are $50 or higher in value
  • Items are tax-deductible as charitable contributions at their actual value
  • WLAF owns the items once contributed

In addition to the satisfaction of raising money to support the Campaign for Wisconsin Libraries and adding to the fun of Silent Auction bidders, those who donate auction items will benefit by:

  • Having your name listed on the bid sheet and on the receipt provided to the winning bidder.
  • Name recognition on the conference Web site auction information
  • Receiving recognition on the WLA website

New this year, look for us on Facebook so you can preview items that have been contributed and will be available for bidding on at the Conference https://www.facebook.com/WisconsinLibraries

As in the past, please bring your items with you to the Conference and drop them off at the Silent Auction area or arrange to have a colleague bring them if you are unable to attend this year’s conference.  You don’t have to be a conference attendee to donate items!

Visit the WLA Conference Silent Auction site for more information and access to the Auction Contribution form.

See you in LaCrosse!
