MADISON, WI—The Poet Laureate Commission of Wisconsin announces the opening of the application/nomination process for selection of the Wisconsin Poet Laureate for 2013–2014. Submissions are welcome from individual poets who are seeking the position. Application packages may also be submitted by a person who is nominating a poet for the position of Poet Laureate. The deadline for application is 4:00 pm on Friday, October 5, 2012. Application materials are available by clicking this link. The Poet Laureate enriches the lives of Wisconsin citizens by sharing and encouraging poetry through statewide literary events or educational programs. Charged with contributing to the recognition, enjoyment and growth of poetry in this state, the Wisconsin Poet Laureate serves as a standard-bearer for Wisconsin’s poets and their work. WiscNet Announces New Structure, Membership Growth

WiscNet announced today that it will be positioning itself "to serve UW as a possible customer, rather than a member, and separating WiscNet’s fiscal, accounting, human resources and procurement functions from the UW." The changes were approved to comply with provisions in the 2011-13 state budget that called for an audit of the UW's relationship to WiscNet and sought to eliminate the UW's involvement in certain telecommunications-related activities. WLA members, many of whom work at schools and libraries that rely on WiscNet for affordable internet service and support, sprung into action to advocate for an extension of the deadline for any changes. Unfortunately, attempts to change the deadline were unsuccessful, thereby requiring WiscNet to determine how to separate from the UW while maintaining its important membership services by July 1, 2013.
