The Wisconsin Library Association Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of several scholarships for library professionals to attend workshops, conference sessions or other library continuing education programs. A scholarship is a great way to fund conference attendance or help finance a master's degree.The WLA Foundation focuses on two areas:•Annual scholarships for library education (approximately $950 - $1600)•Continuing education for WLA members and prospective students (approximately $800- $900)The WLA Foundation's goal is to encourage lifetime learning, conference participation and professional development.   UW-Milwaukee SOIS Partners with Wisconsin Library Association to Provide Educational Opportunities for Paralibrarians For more information and nomination form, please visit: http://sois.uwm.edu/paralibrarian  The Wisconsin Library Association (WLA) and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Information Studies (SOIS) is now accepting nominations for their newly created Paralibrarian of the Year Award. The Award was created to recognize the contributions made by paralibrarians and support staff, and to help them further their education. The winner will be eligible for a scholarship to aid in the completion of a bachelor’s of science degree in Information Science and Technology or a Master of Library and Information Science degree through UWM SOIS. The Wisconsin Library Association Paralibrarian of the Year Award recognizes the essential role of paralibrarians, including all library support staff, who do not currently have an MLIS in providing excellent library service in Wisconsin.  This award places special emphasis on efforts to further the role of paralibrarians...

Library Technology Conference at Macalester College Offers Scholarships

The 2013 Library Technology Conference, March 20-21, 2013, at Macalaster College in St. Paul, MN, will offer scholarships to librarians in Wisconsin and throughout the conference region. The primary purposes of this scholarship are: To support library technology proficiency and awareness by staff working in libraries or school media centers in rural communities and to help facilitate their attendance at the conference, and To encourage participation by library staff who have not previously attended the conference. The deadline for submitting scholarship applications is November 21, 2012. What the scholarship will cover:Each scholarship will cover expenses related to participating in the Library Technology Conference including conference registration (either single day or full 2-day registration fees), one night lodging at one of the conference hotels (available to scholarship applicants who live more than 60 miles from the Macalester College campus). The Association of Wisconsin Special Librarians (AWSL) is pleased to announce it will sponsor a scholarship to the WLA Annual Conference, October 23-26 in La Crosse. The scholarship is a $155 stipend to be used toward conference expenses. All AWSL members (or library school students interested in special librarianship) are encouraged to apply. ALA has announced that the deadline for the Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Week Grant, an annual $3,000 award open to U.S. libraries of all types, is September 30, 2012. The grant is sponsored by Scholastic Library Publishing, a division of Scholastic, the global chidren's publishing, education and media company, and administered by the ALA Public Awareness Committee to support a single library’s public outreach efforts during National Library Week (April 14-20, 2013). Proposals must: Incorporate the 2013 National Library Week theme, “Communities matter @ your library®.” Use the @ your library® brand according to registered trademark guidelines on all related promotional materials. Involve at least one other community organization. Additionally, proposals will be judged on the basis of how well they meet other criteria, including: creativity, originality, clarity of planning and potential for generating widespread public visibility and support for libraries.
