Madison, Wisconsin – February 4, 2015 – In response to Governor Walker’s proposed state budget, Wisconsin Library Association President John Pollitz issued the following statement:  “The Wisconsin Library Association expresses gratitude to Governor Scott Walker for maintaining state funding for Wisconsin’s public library systems, BadgerLink, and Newsline for the Blind, as well as for library service contracts that provide specialized resources to residents across the state from the Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library, the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, Milwaukee Public Library and UW-Madison libraries.”  Public library systems coordinate high-speed telecommunications networks, management of automated shared catalogs and inter-library loan delivery for their member libraries, providing effective, efficient and accountable resources which individual libraries cannot afford on their own. System services keep local library doors open.    BadgerLink (http://badgerlink.net/) offers free online access to 46 databases that help Wisconsin citizens prepare for interviews and build job skills, make smart health decisions, aid...

This year's WLA 2014 Annual Conference in Wisconsin Dells attracted more than 900 participants from across the state. Everyone came away engaged, transformed and connected.  With over 85 sessions presented, library community members gathered to learn new skills, gather new ideas and build new relationships. Attendees would probably agree that the location of the Kalahari was perfect.  When the temperature outdoors took a dip it was nice to have the convention center, restaurants, hotel rooms and entertainment, all under one roof. Attendees have come to expect certain things from a WLA conference, good food, excellent networking opportunities, informative sessions and great keynote speakers…and they were not disappointed. The conference ran smoothly and everyone was able to experience all of things that a good conference should offer. This year, WLA offered two outstanding pre-conference programs. The WeLead workshop kept future leaders thinking about creative programming ideas and the mechanics of developing...
