During this holiday season I want to reach out and send my best wishes to all of you and your families. This is a great time of year to visit with family and friends. I hope that everyone experiences some of the joy that comes from being with those you cherish the most. This is also the time of year when we look at things we did and what we accomplished. Since the season also marks the culmination of my year as WLA president, I would like comment on the many things that WLA accomplished this year. Continued gains from 2014: This year the volunteer orientation redesigned to help unit leaders be better equipped to succeed. We also moved the date of the orientation to make it more convenient. The Wisconsin Library Association’s 124th annual conference in Middleton was an overwhelming success. Attendees gathered around the goal of “Let’s make it happen!” and returned to their communities with strategies, tools and ideas to connect their libraries to make Wisconsin a better place for everyone. The conference took place at the Madison Marriott West, technically in Middleton. The beautiful weather allowed everyone to explore the area on foot or by free trolley to experience the fantastic dining and shopping in Greenway Station and downtown Middleton. The most ambitious attendees arrived on Tuesday for the Decision-Making Boot Camp for Leaders pre-conference. They experienced the World Café planning process, learning how to ask the right questions to gather valuable stakeholder input. Middleton Mayor Kurt Sonnentag welcomed attendees to the conference on Wednesday morning and reinforced the value libraries add to Wisconsin communities. He then turned things over to opening keynote speaker Mita...

Next year will mark the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Wisconsin Library Association. A special task force is in place to plan recognition of the milestone and to further define the role that WLA members, partners, sponsors and the community can play in helping to celebrate Wisconsin’s academic, public and special libraries. As part of this celebration, we believe that it is not only important to recognize our past but also to envision our future. To help ensure that our celebration includes as many voices as possible, I am inviting each of you to consider ways to recognize the amazing contributions that Wisconsin libraries have made to the communities they serve. For more information or to share ideas and suggestions, please contact Paul Nelson, Anniversary Task Force Chair, at bennel62@gmail.com. Let’s plan to make some noise!...
