(Madison, WI) - In recognition of her service to Madison Public Library, and to the South Central Library System and its member libraries, Barbara Dimick will receive the SCLS Foundation's "Cornerstone Award" at a Nov. 8, 2012, fundraising reception. The event will be held at Fitchburg Public Library, 5530 Lacy Road, Fitchburg, WI. "This is the Foundation's fourth annual award, which honors people who have made significant contributions to the improvement of library service in their own communities, throughout the South Central Library System, and statewide," said Trish Frankland, foundation board president. The award is given to an individual or individuals who have had a significant and long-term impact on enhancing public libraries in South Central Wisconsin and represent the values and mission of the SCLS Foundation. There is no charge to attend the reception, but donations to the SCLS Foundation will be accepted....

The Steering Committee of the Wisconsin Library Heritage Center, a program of the Wisconsin Library Association Foundation, has selected seven individuals to be inducted into the Wisconsin Library Hall of Fame (WLHF) in 2012. They are: John Miller Chancellor (1896-1980) Zona Gale (1874-1938) Richard E. Krug (1905-1983) Clarence Brown Lester (1877-1951) Cornelia Marvin Pierce (1873-1957) Rachel Katherine Schenk (1899-1973) Gerald A. Somers (1921-2003) These seven inductees will join twenty-nine other individuals who have previously been inducted into the WLHF. The 2012 inductions will take place at the WLA Annual Conference in La Crosse, WI at the Awards & Honors Banquet on October 25. After a distinguished library career at the national level concluding as the Adult Education Specialist for the American Library Association, John Miller Chancellor moved to Wisconsin. He was appointed to the Wisconsin Free Library Commission at a critical point in the history of public library development in Wisconsin....

The WLA New Members Roundtable is pleased to announce the start of a new annual award opportunity. The “Rising Star” award will be given to a library employee that has made an outstanding contribution in the past year to their library and/or community.  Nominees should have been employed in a Wisconsin library for at least one year and do not have to be a WLA member. The recipient of this award will receive a one year WLA membership and be recognized at the WLA annual conference Awards Ceremony. The Wisconsin Library Association is pleased to announce this year’s library luminaries, selected as outstanding for their contribution to libraries and librarianship: Citation of Merit: Dr. Lelan McLemore, retired director, Carroll University LibraryThe Wisconsin Library Association Awards and Honors Committee confers the 2012 Citation of Merit award upon Dr. Lelan McLemore, recently retired director of the library at Carroll University.  Though Dr. McLemore is not a librarian, his nomination supporters say, “…the library has been his great passion, and he has succeeded in creating a library populated with an excellent staff, state of the art library resources, and students and faculty that consider the Todd Wehr Memorial Library the center of academic life on campus.” Dr. McLemore was chosen as interim director in 1997 in order to oversee a major library renovation, after which a permanent library director was to be hired.
