Message from WAAL Chair, Emily Rogers:
Welcome to the scenic Wisconsin Dells!
The life of a librarian is full of many new and amazing experiences such as daily quests to find resources, deciphering licensing agreements, and writing the secret code of the library catalog. To aid you in your journey as a librarian, the conference planning committee is proud to welcome you to “Charting a Course for Adventure: WAAL 2014.”
We are honored to have information literacy guru, Barbara Fister, and technology mastermind, Maurice York, joins us as the keynote speakers this year. In addition to their talks, we have a variety of sessions featuring new services, creative designs for student learning, an exploration of e-books, as well as ideas for collection analysis. There is something for everyone! Beyond the presenters, we have a number of fun activities to keep you engaged and allow you to meet new people. Stop by our poster sessions on Thursday afternoon and take advantage of the various socials planned each evening.
These are exciting times for WLA and WAAL. I encourage you to stop by the WAAL Business meeting on Thursday at 4pm to find out what changes are coming and how you can help shape the future of our organization. This session is open to all WAAL members. We would love to hear from you so grab a friend and stop by!
As with all great adventures, it takes a number of people to create the energy, excitement, and overall conference experience you are about to have. Big thanks are due to the conference planning committee, the volunteers, presenters, and WLA staff for helping make this conference possible. And of course, thank you to you for participating in this journey. Now get your compass, and chart your course, because adventure is awaiting you!
Emily Rogers, Chair, Wisconsin Association of Academic Librarians (WAAL)
