Join the area’s favorite live cover band, VO5, for a fun night of dancing to the hits of 70s & 80s! We’ll take you back to when librarians wore platform shoes while programming with punch cards, and at the same time you’ll be making a pain-free contribution to the WLA Foundation. Disco-appropriate attire encouraged, but not required. The exciting night includes…

• Dance contest
• 50/50 raffle
• Prize for best costume

Aldo Leopold Center Tour

About Us

Located on the land that inspired A Sand County Almanac, The Leopold Center boasts Platinum LEED ® Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Enjoy the Southern Wisconsin countryside on your brief trip to the Center, where you will learn the history of the site and the green features of the building, known as the greenest of its kind in the United States. Whether you are interested in building better libraries or learning how Aldo Leopold's legacy is being applied today and adapted for the future, this will be a great tour.

H.H. Bennett Studio Tour

Two people visiting the H.H. Bennett Studio.

$5.50 per person. Maximum of 40 participants.

The Henry Hamilton Bennett Studio, opened in 1865, is the oldest operating business in Wisconsin Dells. The current studio has been in operation since 1875, and was operated by Bennett's family until they donated the property to the Wisconsin Historical Society in 1998. On this guided tour of the museum and studio, visitors will see many of Bennett's printed photographic works, cameras and other innovations in photography, and learn about Bennett's roles in the advancement of photography, preservation of local history and the growth of Wisconsin's tourism industry.

Don’t miss your chance to step into three-ring history! AWSL is sponsoring a tour of the Circus World Library and Archives in Baraboo! Ask questions of the resident librarian and archivist, see their special exhibits and rare artifacts, and go behind the scenes to see how the research library is run! (Please note, this tour only includes the library and archives and does not include the Circus World grounds). This 1 ½ hour tour of Circus World’s Robert L. Parkinson Library & Research Center will be led by Peter Shrake, Archivist.

Looking for a first job or applying for a new position and would like a second opinion of your resume? Drop it by the Career Center in the Exhibits Hall and it will be reviewed by a librarian. Come back between 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Career Center to meet up and chat about it.

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
How to do a Skype Interview at Career Center Booth
Don’t let this type of interview intimidate, get tips and tricks from fellow librarians who have survived this type of hiring conversation. Laptops and headsets will be on hand for some live demos of how to be a successful Skype candidate.

The Maker Experience

PARTICIPATE IN THE MAKER EXPERIENCE!

Visit the WLA Makerspace in the Exhibit Hall for tons of hands-on activities that let you experience the maker movement and learn how it could apply to your library. The Maker movement combines creativity, collaboration, literacy development, and STEM/STEAM education in a participatory learning environment.

The Makerspace team has lots of fun activities planned for this year’s conference.

Wednesday Activities:

Make a Video Game with Paper and an iPad
Make a game with graph paper, an iPad (provided or use your own) and the PixelPress Floors app.

Cereal Box Book Making
Make a hand-stitched notebook out of a cereal box.

Squishy Circuits
Learn to teach electronics without soldering or wires with homemade conductive dough.


Thursday Activities (Morning)

Board Game Creation
Materials and inspiration for creating board games will be available. Hopefully, the games will take only 5 - 10 minutes to be created. Packets with materials will be available for attendees to make the games on their own time.

3D Printing
See a real life 3D Printer and make something awesome!


Thursday Activities (Afternoon)

Art Bots / Scribble Bots
Play with Art Bots and explore ways to use them in your library programs.

Build-a-Poem Blocks
Build a poem using blocks in this engineering-meets-art activity.

Play with a MaKey-MaKey and explore ways to use them in your library programs.
