Meet the Mulva Studio

Tuesday, October 22, 2013 - 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Drop in for a tour of the Miriam B. & James J. Mulva Library's newly completed (August 2013) lower level at St. Norbert College. Library staff will provide tours of this exciting, new space, the Mulva Studio, and provide hands-on opportunities with its innovative, state of the art technology. After your tour of the lower level, we welcome you to spend some time investigating this four-year-old library in its entirety. Check out Meet the Mulva Studio on YouTube to see what it's all about. (No transportation is provided from the Conference Center to the College. Stop by on your way into Green Bay!)

Tailgate Party

Tuesday, October 22, 2013 - 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

This year we are welcoming our conference exhibitors with a “Titletown Tailgate Party!” After all, Green Bay is the home of the world champion Green Bay Packers! Brats, burgers, hot dogs, beans and potato salad will be aplenty, along with your enthusiasm. A cash bar will be available. And, once the party is done, you can enjoy 2-for-1 drinks at Coaches Corner the rest of the evening! There is no cost outside of the cash bar. When registering for the conference, please make sure you sign up on the conference registration form.

Exhibit Hall Opening Extravaganza

Wednesday, October 23, 2013 - 8:30 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.

Meet up in the exhibit hall for a great start to the day! Greet your favorite vendors and meet some new ones during this no-conflict time. And be sure to check out the new Demo Stage while you're there. The Stage will kick-off with "From Discarded to Disc-ART-ed," where you can see examples of discarded library materials finding new life in creative artwork by librarians. Stay for a while and give it a try! It's all about playing, creating, and innovating.

Llllllllllet's get ready to rumble! Spend time touring Lambeau Field, where past and present Packers greats have made football history. Get some behind-the-scenes looks (including the players tunnel) and time to visit the Packers Pro Shop.

Load buses at 3:15PM, return to conference center at 5:15 p.m. Space is limited to 35 people each day, so sign up early! Cost: $10.

Librarians Rock is the 2013 WLA Foundation fundraiser that will leave no doubt that librarians do indeed ROCK! Join your friends and colleagues for an unforgettable night showcasing the musical talents of your peers from around the state. The entertainment for the night will include original music acts, karaoke backed by the live band Book Enz, the crowning of the first ever Wisconsin Librarian Idol and a special appearance of the King of Rock-n-Roll. What more could you want? How about the chance to win money (50/50 raffle), a spectacular giveaway ($2,000+ Mega Audiobook Package from Recorded Books) and too many wonderful items to list that you could walk away with by placing a winning bid at the Silent Auction! All of this for $20 in advance or $25 at the door. The bar is cash and the fun will be priceless.

Morning Yoga Session

Thursday, October 24, 2013 - 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 a.m.

This 30-minute session will combine spirit, mind and body. Movements will involve balance, strength, flexibility, and focus on breathing. Instructors from the Green Bay YMCA will be along to guide every move. Geared for all ages! Space is limited to 40 participants, so sign up early. Registration required, but no cost to participate.

Tour of the Oneida Community Library

Come take a tour of the Oneida Nation Library, located slightly west of Green Bay. The collection and programming of this library reflects the unique Oneida culture and heritage. It is a tour you don't want to miss! Registration required, but no cost to participate.

Bring It: Banned Books Read-In Celebrating Multicultural Literature

What will you bring to the fight against censorship? Bring your voice and your favorite banned work of multicultural literature! Bring It: Banned Books Read-In is a celebration of intellectual freedom and literature reflecting the diversity of our communities.

Come and learn about Libros Milwaukee, an underground library centered on Mexican American expression, perspective, and history. The underground library seeks to eliminate barriers of access and provide a welcoming environment where community members of all ages, races, and ethnicities can access Mexican American cultural works and Ethnic Studies literature.

Top library conference speakers present an impromptu talk using random PowerPoint slides they have never seen before. You’ll laugh, you’ll scream, you’ll cry and you’ll cringe at this improvisational comedy crossed with American Idol event. Who will be crowned WLA’s 2013 champion?

And we'll add a twist for you creative folks - take a mystery pile of miscellaneous fodder and create something beautiful while the clock is ticking for the all new Craftdecks!
