Donate to the WLA Foundation Silent Auction!

I am pleased to be Chair of the 2010 WLAF Silent Auction. This year the conference is at the Kalahari Resort in 'the Dells'. What a great venue for a conference and an auction. When you are organizing your life and/or 'downsizing' your treasures, consider sharing a few of those carefully selected items with the Foundation Silent Auction. Pottery is wonderful, art work is really a gift and personal jewelry is a treasure to many. Beer works too, by the way.

Check out the Silent Auction information under Highlights & Speakers.  Please complete the Auction Contribution Form when donating an item.

Looking forward to greeting each of you as you bid on the wonderful items available at the auction.  If I am not in the auction area....check the POOL. Our thanks for thinking of the Foundation as you rearrange your home and your life.

Noted children's and young adult author Gordon Korman will be a featured speaker at this year's conference.

Gordon Korman wrote his first book when he was 12 years old and published it at 14. He has been writing ever since and has more than 60 titles to his credit. While his early books have been classified as "humorous realistic fiction," Korman's recent works, such as the Kidnapped series and the Island Trilogy, include more elements of adventure and suspense.  His most recent titles include Framed, a sequel to Swindle and Zoobreak, published by Scholastic and due out in Fall 2010, and Titanic, an adventure trilogy due to appear in Summer 2011.

The 2010 WLA conference keynote speaker is acclaimed author Marilyn Johnson whose recent publication, This Book is Overdue!: How Librarians and Cybrarians Can Save Us All, has been garnering rave reviews from readers inside and beyond our profession.

"What is it like to be a librarian in a world of too much information? Constant change, exploding technology, shrinking budgets, growing numbers of the baffled...could there be a better spot than behind the librarians' desk to watch the digital age unfold?"

We are delighted to host Marilyn Johnson for what is sure to be a enlightening and humorous keynote address! For more information about the author and her works, check out http://marilynjohnson.net/index.htm.
