In 2005, the WeLead Initiative was created to identify and mentor emerging and/or new librarians for leadership positions within WLA and the profession. WLA recognized the need to cultivate a new generation of leaders to advance WLA’s mission to ensure a strong and vibrant library leadership.
At its February 12, 2016 meeting, the WLA Board of Directors approved the recommendation to dissolve the WeLead Taskforce. This formal mentoring and leadership development initiative has had ten years of successful participation and programming. There are plans to create a new WLA Leadership Committee so this type of mentorship program will continue, in addition to other leadership development opportunities such as a leadership academy for WLA members.
If you are interested in being a part of such a committee and the ongoing work to develop leaders in the WLA organization, please contact the WLA office at 608.245.3640 or email email@example.com.
